OUR HISTORY
Northern Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) is founded on the exalted grounds of community health, Medical education and Public welfare. It is the brain child of a select circle of overseas Pakistanis who live abroad physically but their hearts beat with their countrymen. The calamity of devastating earthquake (2005) in the northern areas of Pakistan, happened to bring this elite together to ponder over possible measures for emancipation of their fellow being from the painful consequences of such a disaster. Organized in the society for promotion of Health and Health education (SEHT) they reached at a bold decision to institutionalize their struggle against the human vulnerability to the traumatic effects of health hazards.
NIMS is a glaring outcome of these deliberations. The aims and objects of the NIMS along with its constituent organs are evident from the genesis of the institutional complex, of which:
a. The comprehensive campus of the college of Medicine.
b. A 200-bed teaching hospital with all the clinical department, are already on ground. NIMS College of Medicine has emerged as a premier seat of medical and paramedical education and its associated teaching hospitals have initiated a widespread community health services with primary health care centers in the suburbs of Abbottabad. Our caring approach to students will ensure that you have the best possible chance of developing into a competent and resourceful doctor, well qualified to practice medicine in the health care programs of the future in there homeland and abroad. Knowledge is the most precious heritage of mankind, education remains supreme among all human activities.
Acquisition of knowledge requires study of nature. Thus a patriotic class of overseas Pakistanis decided to come forward for an effective contribution to narrowing the gap between the national and international standards of health services and health education. With a formidable task ahead, they sought cooperation of the devoted professionals working in Pakistan and dedicated to the uplift of Medical Education for the service of humanity. Together, they constituted a Society for promotion of Health and Health Education (SEHT) upholding the noble cause of an overall improvement in the prevailing situation of the health sector with a view to achieve some degree of compatibility with international standards. NIMS, Abbottabad was then brought on ground in August 2006.
